How to add a second user / author to my site?

I started the blog for both my husband and I. We will both be authors. I have a worpress.com account but he does not have a separate account. How can I add him to my blog as a second user / author?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

This article should point you in the right direction, specifically the top section titled “Inviting Contributors, Followers, and Viewers”.

Your husband will have to sign up for a wordpress.com account, but after that, once you’ve invited him to contribute to your blog, and he accepts the invite, you should be good to go.

Also, you might want to take a moment to read up on user roles in WordPress, if you aren’t already familiar.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks, JSMutek for sharing those articles.

I just have one more question. If my husband signs up for a wordpress.com account, he is basically starting a new blog–yes?

Can we just make this a private blog for now because I don’t expect him to fill another site with content. :-) I already have two websites and this makes the third, Lord help me.

Am I correct about signing up being the same as starting a new blog?
    Thanks again,
    Posey

Not a problem, happy to help!

When creating a new account, a user has the option to sign up for just a user name. On the sign up page (you need to be logged out, in order to see this), to the right of the section Blog Address field, there’s a link titled “sign up for just a user name”. (here’s a direct link)

I’ve never done this myself, I have a wordpress.com blog as well as self hosted sites, but I’m sure it would be easy to then add a blog at a a later date, should he decide to do so.

    Does this help?
