how to add a sidebar for my categories widget?

i am trying to add a widget for my categories, and i want it to be displayed as a sidebar so my readers can have easier access. I cannot seem to get it to work, it is very confusing. Someone please help me. I have also tried reading the instructions but i cannot get it to work.

Looking at your blog, it looks like you are still in the works of setting everything up. If you are having issues with adding widgets in general check this out for widget support documentation

if your issue is that you can add the widgets but they aren’t showing in your side bar, it looks like the Kelley Theme you are using doesn’t support sidebars. Instead it uses 3 columns of widgets in the footer.

Also, the widget will not display until it has something to display, ie posts with categories.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply back to me! I am using aother blog that it actually set up and has comments. In that blog, i have what i believe is a categories section, where the people can choose to add their comments to either category. I just cannot find to display the bar.
