How to add a ticker
-
Hi. I’m a TOTAL Novice at any type of website programming so bear with me please.
I would like to add a ticker from ticker factory to my standard theme. I’ve tried to do this in a text widget and it doesn’t work. Can anyone give me a 1,2,3 step how to do this. THANKS -
Could you please provide a link to whatever “ticker” is? Because without that specific information no one can help you.

If it’s from there, paste the HTML version into a text widget and all should be good. -
Hi. Thanks
Two problems. If I paste in the tickerfactory html as it comes up on their site to copy it just gives me a little red box in the left hand side of the text widget – which when clicked on takes me to the site but not to my ticker. So I then tried another supplier (pyzam) with this code <embed allowScriptAccess=”never”src=”http://www.freeflashtoys.biz/apps/countup.swf?maturity=0511070000B068097121115032115105110099101032119101032119101114101032076111103103101100032073110033″ quality=”high” wmode=”transparent” width=”350″ height=”60″ align=”middle” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” pluginspage=”http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer” /><br><small><small>Click Here to get this from pYzam.com!</small></small><br>
and it only takes me to the pyzam site – no countup clock.Any ideas. -
I believe the key words here may be “shockwave flash plug-in”. It appears what the code does is embed a a flash player and this is not possible on wordpress.com because the code is stripped out by the programming to preserve security. Styles, frames and java script are stripped by the programming here as we are blogging on a multi-user platform and allowing them would compromise security.

So is there a reason as to why the first ticker didn’t work? This could be something I would be interested in employing.

But Podz suggests that an HTML version should work off the site – http://www.tickerfactory.com

Mine won’t fit into a test widget it overflows the blog frame. Do you have yours on a post instead? Having to redate the post each day to keep it at the top would IMO be a pain.

Hey could someone help me? I put in a ticker and now my sidebar looks totally messed up. It used to sit pretty at the side of my posts and now it has somehow dropped to the middle of the blog. See: http://melancholicjoy.wordpress.com/

A ticker will not fit in the sidebar. Open the widget and remove it. They fit only pages and posts.

~fishaball, et al:
“A ticker will not fit in the sidebar. Open the widget and remove it”
^ ^ ^ Not correct ^ ^ ^Choose Ticker: “slider” image
Choose: “small” ticker
Choose: light /or/ dark (background, of your blog)
Paste code into a blank WP widget (–type a title, if desired)
Close widget (click on “x” –upper right corner)
click: “update changes”
You’re done. How do I know? My avatar (cream puff) should tell you I’m tech-challenged, yet I put a ticker into a widget –about four hours ago. FEW things are as Easy. –I even chose my own original text for it (–“Till White House can be aired out”) and start, end dates. It’s in desired position, fits perfectly. Looks Great! You won’t need ‘luck’ doing it, too!Poppy

This thread has gone way off course.
(1) You can get a countdown ticker here http://www.tickerfactory.com
(2) You can place one in a page or post but not in your sidebar.
