How to add a user that puts my website together

Hi. I am a total newbie with WP. I have a company who is putting together my website based on one of their templates. They are also going to install a couple of plugins. I have already registered the domain and have all the hosting things I need.

This is what I received in the email. (1.) Install WP on the website. Then add our support (email address given) as a user with rights.

So, I installed WP. On Cpanel on the left menu, I clicked on “Manage Team” and clicked On “create a new team user” and filled in the details. Under username I could enter a username but the “right hand side” was already prepopulated with my domain name, as if I had to enter an email address from someone with my domain name extension. I then created a password and sent everything to the person who has to login to create the website. He then advised that he couldn’t login with the details I sent.

I then read through some WP support docs on how to add a new user. I went to the confirmation email when I installed WP on my site and clicked on the login details. From there I created a new user and sent an email invite to the person.

Is this the correct way of adding someone to work on the website? I haven’t heard anything from them yet to know if I did it right.

Looking back I now think that the Cpanel’s “Manage Team” is where I add someone from my company with the same domain extension to their email and the second way I created a new user after logging in to my site as admin, was the correct way.

Will you kindly please advise if this was correct. Thank you.

    Hello!

It sounds like your site is hosted with a third-party provider (not WordPress.com), as you don’t have any sites attached to your account, and also since you’re accessing WordPress through cPanel. cPanel means that user and site management is handled directly through your hosting provider’s WordPress installation, not via WordPress.com.

If you’d like to build your site over here on WordPress.com instead, you can explore your options in this guide and view our Invite people to your site guide.
