how do i add a vertical column to the outsides of the blog both left and right sides and one in between the 2 columns running all the way down page?
and how can i make the columns more narrow in width like this blog

Hi there. These types of changes can only be made by editing the theme’s CSS, and for that you’ll need the custom design upgrade. Also keep in mind neither of the blogs you link as examples are on WordPress.com, so it might not be possible to get yours looking exactly like those do.
