How to add Amazon/Other Affiliate programs?

How does a blogger who wants to set up affiliate sales on his blog set it up? Are there widgets for that (for example, Amazon offers widgets) or do I just do in-text links? I can’t find a thing on the WordPress site about selling affiliate programs (or selling my own products: how would I sell my own stuff? Would that require a different site for eCommerce?

The reason why you don’t find any widgets is that wordpress.com is for blogging not for selling things. That said, the only amazon links that will work on wordpress.com are text links.
