How to add another blog page

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear Great WordPress.com,

My name is Alex Kim, the owner of HF Wisdom Bank.
    http://akhf.wordpress.com is my website.
My question is that the menu ‘review’ is ok with blog pages.
I’ve been trying so hard to make the menu ‘essay’ as another blog, but I can’t fix.
    Would you please help keep?
I will buy a service one day after my website is cool.

    Thanks

    Alex Kim

    Hi there,

Nice job on your site so far, Alex :)

From what I can tell, ‘Reviews’ is currently set as your blog page and ‘Essays’ is a Post.

With WordPress.com, your site can only have 1 Blog page – which is a page that lists all of your site’s posts. See https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

However, it is possible to create Categories that can then be included as menu items in a Custom Menu.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

This may be the best approach to what you would like to do.

Perhaps give it try and let me know how that goes.

So, you mean I can create a menu on ‘review’?
    Then, should I remove ‘essay’?
If I use ‘review’ as a blog page, can I create two menus? I mean one for ‘review’ and the other for ‘essay’…

    Thanks so much :)

I’m not exactly sure how you would like to set up your site, @akhf, but I’ll do my best to guess ;)

Whatever you set as your ‘Blog’ page will display a list of all the posts on your site, often with a thumbnail image and short summary of each post.

Currently, ‘Reviews’ is set as that page on your site.

My recommendation would be to create certain Categories that can be applied to the relevant posts, then be listed on a custom menu.

For example, create a Category called ‘reviews’. Each post that is a book review can then be assigned to the ‘reviews’ category.

In the same way, create another Category called ‘essays’ and assign any posts that are considered an essay to that category.

Now, you can create a custom menu and include both the ‘reviews’ and ‘essays’ Categories as menu items.

When clicking on the ‘reviews’ category menu item, a page will display a list of posts that have only been assigned the ‘reviews’ category.

And the same will happen when clicking on the ‘essays’ category menu item. Only posts that have been assigned the ‘essays’ category will be displayed in the list.

If I use ‘review’ as a blog page, can I create two menus? I mean one for ‘review’ and the other for ‘essay’…

You could do this. But it might make better sense to create an actual Blog page to display all your posts, then create submenus below that with your ‘reviews’ and ‘essays’ Category links.

Hope this helps, but I think it will make a little more sense once you start creating Categories, assigning them to posts, and placing them in menus.

It makes all senses no :)

    Sorry to bother you again…

What is the difference between Categories and Tags?
The reason why I ask this question is that there is no categories button when I edit ‘reviews’ page.
I’ve been struggling with this for a long time but still can not figure out.
    Please forgive my unintelligent…

    I think I got it now…
just can you explain me about tags?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi @akhf,

Looks like you have been busy! Glad to hear things are starting to make sense.

There is an article here that explains Categories vs. Tags:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/

The basic idea here is that a Category would be more general, while a Tag is something specific.

So for example, You can have a Category of Autos and corresponding Tags of Honda, Ford, Chevy, Ferrari, Audi, etc.

Categories and Tags do not necessarily have to relate to each other, but it’s a good idea to organize them as in the example above.

The reason why I ask this question is that there is no categories button when I edit ‘reviews’ page.

Yes, that can get a little confusing. Just remember that Categories and Tags can only be assigned to Posts – not Pages.

Also, you are welcome to go to https://en.support.wordpress.com/ and type questions into the Search bar there. But don’t hesitate to keep asking here in the forums as well.

And I’ll keep you in mind if I find myself in Canada anytime soon ;)

    Thanks so much…

    Hey Buddy,

    What is the red button?
I’m doing so well now, right?
I made discussion and review pages.

Thanks so much for your help all the time :)

    Hi Alex,

Great job getting along with your site!

    What is the red button?

I’m assuming that you mean the red button that says ‘Call To Action’ on it. Is that correct?

If so, then you can link and label that button with any specific action that you want your site visitors to take. Some examples would be ‘Subscribe to my Newsletter’, or ‘Follow me’.

    For your Gateway theme, see:
    https://gatewaydemo.wordpress.com/add-a-call-to-action-button/

You will not be able to customize the button much, but here is a good article that goes a little deeper into Call To Action buttons that may provide you with some ideas.

    You are the best… that’s what I’m thinking…
Is there any possibility that I can make some money with the red button?
    Or what is the ‘subscribe’?
    I always wondered…
