How to add categories to separate blog post topics

You know those drop down menus in the top bar of a website? I managed to create them for various “pages” of info etc. but I can’t figure out how to create separate headings in order to group posts. For example, my blog is about motherhood and lifestyle so I want a section (with a link in the top bar of my site) that says “baby” and how to link my baby-related posts to show up under that heading. Does that makes sense? If so, can anybody shed some light on this? Thank you!

Ok I figured out how to put the posts into categories but now how do I get them onto my heading bar next to “about” and “social media” etc?

Use a custom domain and link to the category pages. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/
