How to add categories to the right column of my "Mystique" blog

  Hi,

  On Saturday I decided to jump in with both feet and start a blog. I had it all worked out in my mind but I am now at a loss as to how I make it happen. I can’t seem to add categories or a calendar to the right hand column. I’ve gone into widgets and drag and dropped but it remains empty. Also how do I get rid of “uncategorised”. All help gratefully appreciated.

  Good news! You’ve done the right thing, and placed a Category widget. Bad news, you haven’t created any categories yet, so ‘Uncategorized’ is the only thing your widget can display. :)

  If you go to your existing posts and assign them some categories, those category names will show up as links in the sidebar. Here is some more info: Categories

  To delete ‘Uncategorized’ as an option, you need to set a new default category (once you have created it) by visiting Settings > Writing > Default Post Category. Once you save that, you can go back to your Posts > Categories page and delete ‘Uncategorized.’

  I see that you have tagged your posts and I wonder if you know that there are both tags and categories available on WordPress.com? Note that you can use both tags and categories. Below are some details about them.

  If you decide to use categories, you can get rid of the default “uncategorized” category with this procedure:
