How to add my domain without getting the WP package

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! So I’ve just recently bought a domain from NameCheap but I was having a problem linking my domain here because it seemed like I needed to purchase your package. Is there a way where I can link my domain without getting the package?

    Please advise. Thank you.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    Hi there,

Is there a way where I can link my domain without getting the package?

The correct way to do this is by connecting your domain to your WordPress.com website with a package so that your domain shows as the primary domain rather than the yoursite.wordpress.com subdomain. This becomes important when you are listing your site with search engines. https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

The Personal plan is the least expensive plan and gives you a lot more than just connecting your domain. The plan also gives you direct support via email, no ads appearing on your site and another 3GB additional storage space. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

You can also transfer your domain to WordPress.com (after the 60 day limit imposed by ICANN for new domain registrations) you’ll also get an additional year of domain registration. https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

I hope that helps answer your question, but post back here if you need further info.

    Thank you for responding.

Question, though. If I get the personal plan, does it come with SSL? And if I get the plan, do I have to do extra work to finally make it launched? I mean the website? Thank you.

Hello again, all WordPress.com websites (including free sites) come with SSL.

I’m not sure what you mean by “do I have to do extra work to finally make it launched”. Can you clarify a bit?
