How to add Norton safe-site verification code to my WordPress.com site?
-
When any of my pages come up in a search performed by Norton subscribers, a black question mark appears next to the title.
Those searchers are unlikely ever to click on my pages, because this question mark indicates that Norton has not verified the site as safe. (I can provide a screen shot, if needed.)
To have the site green-lighted, and the question mark removed, I must do one of two things: Place Norton-supplied code in the meta tag or upload specific HTML to the root directory.
These are the only options Norton provides. I have found no way, so far, to add the code or upload the HTML.
I did a search of the forum and found a number of people have had this problem over the years, but without apparent resolution.
Can you help?

Hi Kathryn,
I’m afraid that we do not have any way to complete either of those steps in WordPress.com. We have recommended that users reach out to Norton to request a DNS-based means by which to verify identity, but thus far Norton has not implemented such an improvement.
I’m sorry that we aren’t able to help with this.

Hello Mighty. Thanks for letting me know. I don’t know what “DNS-based” means, but I am trying to get help from Norton on this as well. I will mention it to them.
It would be lovely if WordPress and Norton could get together on this problem and hash it out for the benefit of all their mutual customers.
Thank you for your prompt reply. Much appreciated.

A DNS-based verification method would be a unique code which is associated only with your account and is set as a CNAME and attached to your domain name. It would only be available for those with a custom domain or mapping, but would at least be a step.
I would recommend posting to the Ideas forum right here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas . I have added it to an internal list, but everywhere helps!

Thanks again. I will mention that in the Norton forums. Meanwhile, I will hit the link you gave and post my request there.
