How to add plugins
-
I have downloaded a plugin I want to add to my site through wordpress.org; however, my wordpress does not offer me an ‘add new’ option to add my plugin. When I click the plugin option from my sidebar menu while in edit mode, it comes up with a screen with a list of available plugins plus a search bar. If I use the search bar, the one I want to use does not come up. I want to use Quiz Cat or any plugin that’s not preloaded in my free wordpress site. Is that something I can do?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
This is the WordPress.com forum. There are 2 different versions of WordPress. What we do here at WordPress.com is a bit different from the WordPress installation that you use with a hosting company.
This guide outlines those differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Plugins can be used with a self hosted WordPress site, but not on WordPress.com.

Hi inspectionon –
To use plugins you would need the WordPress installation that you use with a hosting company. This is referred to as WordPress.org or self hosted WordPress and is different from what happens here at WordPress.com.
This guide outlines those differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
You can read more about WordPress.org from the Getting Started materials on the left hand side of https://wordpress.org. This version is much more hands on as you’ll be responsible for the nitty gritty details of the site.
Let me know if you have any other follow up questions.
