How to Add Social Bookmarks to your Post

I have noticed a lot of questions on how to add social bookmarks to your post. I wanted to create a forum post that catalogs some solutions…so we can get them all in one place.

To add the AddThis! button, use this code:

You can change what it says by changing title="Bookmark using any bookmark manager!" to something else such as title="Share this post!"

You can change what the button says by using a different image code:

To add Social Bookmark buttons:

All you need to do is copy the code below into a text editor like NotePad or TextEdit.

Simply “Find and Replace” xURIx with your post URI. You can find it in the address bar when you navigate to the post after you have poublished it. For instance, it may be something like http://example.wordpress.com/example-post/

Next, “Find and Replace” xTITLEx with your post title.

Open your post and paste the code wherever you want it. I usually put it at the bottom.

Save the post.

That should do it. Navigate to your post and check out out your beautiful new social bookmark buttons!

There are some spaces in between the buttons. To separate your buttons with :: or – just do the following:

Replace      with :: or — or some other HTML code.

However, I would recommend using the code above instead of the one from sunburntkamel. I fixed some link errors in the code. Also, I added some “rel=nofollows” so that your Google Juice does not get wasted on Technorati, Reddit, Digg…etc.

I use http://www.addthis.com/ for both my Bookmark & Rss Feed buttons. I then save the code in notepad and cut and paste all my html code including those codes into every post. Complicating but it’s second nature now and easy.

If you want them in each post, then yes. You can have them in a widget on your sidebar but I think the person has to be viewing the post as a permalink so it bookmarks and gets the Rss feed for that certain particular post. If it’s not set to the permalink, then it just picks up the blog’s main url link. But I have other code I add to each of my posts anyway. So I add those buttons in it also.

The GET SOCIAL download comes with Addthis, so I recommend getting the Get Social tool.

even if you go to the addthis.com site, they still support .COM wordpress blogs so maybe you were looking at the wrong thing. But, still, get the GET SOCIAL TOOL
