how to add tags to my post

tags are actually categories. if you have 5 categories you have 5 tags. those are wp tags. there are plenty of other tags (such as technorati) you can add but i’m not sure if you can get a tutorial on how to from here.
i must admit i need to learn how to add technorati tags myself.

can i ride on this post? :)
what happens if i really want categories as categories to sort my posts and tags just end up making my category look messy? i would like to know how you sort them! i’d love the categories to be seen, and the tags per post but not in categorical form.

i don’t quite get what you’re asking, maki? tags and categories are one and the same, just referred in two confusing different terms.

Cornell, there are over 2500 words in Lorelle’s post, and I am STILL not sure what the difference between Technorati tags and WordPress tags is. My assumption to this point (obviously incorrect) was that they were one and the same, and if my Technorati blog profile had the same tags as my WordPress one, each WordPress tag would automatically function as a Technorati one as well. But if this were true there would be no point to any of the 2500 words of instructions Lorelle gives.
Can someone clear up my confusion?

Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. Wouldn’t it be nice if it did!
WordPress tags are specifically used within wordpress and don’t link to anywhere else.
Technorati tags create a URL straight to Technorati search and don’t function within WordPress.
Obviously you can use the words for both but both must be inserted (via the wordress tags and Lorelle’s instruction) for them both to work. It’s duplicating the job but that’s what we must do on wp.com to satisfy our vanity and want for more readers!
Lorelle’s instruction gives details on how to create a “button” within IE or Firefox (or whatever) so that you can just write the tags, it will give you the code to insert and you just copy and paste that into your write post window.
I hope this makes some sense.

Thanks, that does explain things.
I’ve been to a couple of blogs that were littered with “Favorite this” buttons at the bottom of each post, and I copied the code for them. Presumably what Lorelle has done would also work for them. One day when I’m not so lazy I’ll give it a try.
Now could someone explain why I have gotten hits from Technorati tag searches, although only on a couple of tags. According to this I shouldn’t be getting any at all.

I think they might run a standard blog crawler service too for blogs that are “claimed”. This might just be a vicious rumour though!

It would indicate a level of efficiency which would be entirely uncharacteristic of Technorati, in my opinion.
I tried to follow Lorelle’s instructions, but apparently I’m braindead. My browser won’t let me click and drag links to my Favorites sidebar. Is this because I’m running IE 6, or because I’m doing something wrong? And I can’t copy the javascript and paste it in, either.
I jury-rigged text social bookmarks. Hopefully they work; it wasn’t that hard, just copy and paste.
