How to add text characters

  • Unknown's avatar

I used to be able to add specialized text characters like wingdings or particular single character latin fonts to the body text of my posts. Today I find I am unable to do this and that the character only comes up as, for example, the paragraph font L instead of a Lolita Scorned L. (please have a look at http://acrossthebored.com/2014/02/24/tagged-g/ for an example)
This is an integral feature of the formatting of my work and I would appreciate a workaround if anyone has any ideas.
    Thanks in advance.

Could you please send me a screenshot of the effect you’re hoping to attain? It will help me to troubleshoot your problem if I can see it illustrated. You can upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there. Feel free to load as many images as you feel depicts the issue. Then, please let me know when I can look at them.

The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:

Also, please tell me how you added your specialized fonts in the past.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

    Hello Robyn,
The effect I had obtained previously was visible in the link posted in my query but I have added a few screenshots to my library for your perusal. Here was my work flow for adding special characters:
    – type in the text of the post in paragraph mode
    – open the character viewer on my desktop
    – choose the character from the options available (see screenshot)
    – drag and drop it to where my cursor was placed (see screenshot – an option that is no longer available as it now defaults to the “drop files to upload” window)
    OR
    – highlight the character I wished to change in the post, double click on the specialized character in the character viewer and it would change automatically (this now no longer works as the character remains in Latin paragraph mode – ie. the same)
Thanks in advance for your help and please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further information to help resolve this issue.

Hello there! Thanks for the screenshot. It helped clear a few things up.

I asked to see it because your special character isn’t viewable on any of my browsers or computers. It’s only viewable if the user has that specific font installed on his/her computer. Otherwise, it’s seen as a default font.

Here’s an example of what I see when I click on your first link:

If you want your special characters to look the same for all your visitors, you could add letters of the alphabet to your Media Library, and insert them to Posts/Pages whenever you want. These graphics would always be accessible to you, and they’d always visible to every user. It would make your insertion process more efficient, and the result more reliable.

If you have other concerns, or questions, don’t hesitate to ask! Thanks very much.
