How to add the Follow Twitter graphic to the sidebar
-
How do I add the Follow Twitter graphic and a link to me on Twitter? After several attempts, I cannot figure out the code for the “Twitter Follow Button.” What is a “screen name” and which URL should I use? All I see is text in the sidebar. I have put the code in the title and in the body. Neither works for me. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you’re looking to just have the Follow Me button then you’ll want to use the Twitter widget. I believe you’re trying to use the Twitter Timeline widget, which mainly allows you to embed your timeline of recent Tweets.
Both widgets will allow you to have a Follow Me button, as well as other information, but if you’re main goal is to get the button then the Twitter widget will be easier to set up. Just enter your Twitter username in the “Twitter Username:” field, check the “Display Follow Button”, and set the number of recent tweets you want displayed and Save.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying so quickly.
Unfortunately, the only Twitter-related widget listed on my version of WordPress is “Twitter Timeline.” (Perhaps the enhanced version of WordPress offers more widgets?) So, what can I do with the Twitter Timeline widget?

Thanks, timethief, for this. Before posting my query, I followed those instructions several times and ended up with the code appearing in text form in my side bar. I tried placing the code in the title and then in the text. Neither worked.
This is the “Follow” code I worked with over and over again…
[twitter-follow screen_name='wordpressdotcom' show_screen_name='no']Perhaps my problem is that I do not understand what my “screen name” should be. And then I did not understand what to do with “wordpressdotcom.” Is this where I should write the blog’s entire URL?

gaildever,
timetheif is headed in the right direction. Here is the pertinent link to get you going: http://en.support.wordpress.com/twitter/twitter-follow-button/Basically, just drag a Text widget to your sidebar and use the shortcode.

@geneaalacarte
I am pretty sure I tried entering that, but I will give it another try. I assume I enter it twice within the code where it says “screen name.” Where I run into difficulty, I think, is the wordpressdotcom part. Who knows? :)

@colorfultones
I’m multitasking from my business and running chron jobs on a third computer for my contracted work. I believe you and gaildever have all your need now so I’m out of here and wishing you success. :) -

Your Twitter ID is https://twitter.com/geneaalacarte and that’s what is required.

Try not to laugh…
This is what I wrote in the text box of the Text Widget, and it now appears on my sidebar.
twitter-follow @geneaalacarte=wordpress.com show_@geneaalacarte=no
-
I just entered this code:
twitter-follow https://twitter.com/geneaalacarte=wordpress.com show_@geneaalacarte=noI still see the code on the sidebar. (I will try something else.)
-
Then, I tried this:
twitter-follow https://twitter.com/geneaalacarte=wordpress.com show_https://twitter.com/geneaalacarte=no
… and a whole bunch of other variations. :(
What should my full code look like? Does it matter if I add it to the Text title or Text text?

wow, everyone is so cool here, and timethief you are multitasking, and still taking time to help someone else, I think I am going to like it here, quite frankly I am burned out with facebook, and need the challenge of putting together a blog I can use for my business. Lots to learn…

This is not the thread for this, but I cannot access the Help section…
Since I added the Twitter code to my blog three or four hours ago, I cannot access any part of my blog, public or private. The wheel just keeps spinning. Is this a coincidence? If so, what could the problem be?
Meanwhile, I can access another WordPress blog with no problem.
Thoughts?
