How to add the Follow Twitter graphic to the sidebar
-
@armidalsilver
Welcome and I’d be pleased if you chose to follow my blog. :)@gaildever
The two issues re: twitter and the login issue are not related. What you describe is likely to be a connectivity issue or a browser related issue.1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. -

I rebooted my computer with no success.
Then, I tried to access my blog, Genealogy a la carte on another computer, using both IE 10 and Firefox. Same problem: the wheel just spins. I cannot access the private or public sides of the blog.
I also noticed on both computers and in both browsers that the Twitter logo has disappeared and has now been replaced with text: Follow @geneaalacarte. I am thinking that may be the problem, but I cannot access my Dashboards and widgets to remove it.
I will clean my cache, but I do not believe that could be a problem on two computers, especially because the other one is owned by someone who keeps his computer tidy and up to speed.
As mentioned earlier, I can access another WordPress blog’s private and public sections — and it does not have Twitter on it.
Interesting… the wheel finally stopped spinning and I made it to the stats. Now trying to access other parts for two or three minutes with no success.

I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Now, I can access the Widgets page, but cannot access any of my widgets. I had hoped to remove the twitter code in the Text widget. The drop down does not work in IE 10 or Firefox. None of the widgets open for editing.
Can you view my blog?
Thanks.

I’ve been waiting for about two weeks on another “staff follow-up” issue. I had hoped to post tomorrow. How long is the usual wait time? My patience will quickly dwindle after 24 hours in this latest case…
I’m still thinking the Twitter code may have created the problem.

There are 50 million of us and only 230 Staff. This is a peer support forum where Staff and Volunteers work together cooperatively to provide WordPress.com support.
Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.
How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are. So, I can’t provide and answer to your ‘How long is the usual wait time?’ question.

P.S. If you think the twitter widget is the culprit then remove the text widget and see what happens.
-
That is a lot of users! I will patiently wait.
I cannot open/edit ANY of the widgets I have set in place, which is why I cannot remove the Twitter code. (Not sure if the code is causing the problem or it is just a coincidence that the problem happened within minutes of me adding the code to the Text widget.)
I also cannot add a new widget. Nothing on the widget page opens.
Tried opening widgets on two computers and tried using Firefox and IE 10 on both computers.
And to think how happy I was when I saw the Twitter logo on my blog.
Thanks!

(whispering) Shhh… Not sure what is going on, but all looks good in my part of the blogosphere.
Will keep my fingers crossed that I don’t need to pester anyone for a while about my inability to access my blog. I can now open my widgets, but no longer want to remove the Twitter code because all looks good.
Thanks so much to both of you for your help — and patience.
