How to add thumbnail gallery to a page with the block editor

  So the new block editor has got me confused.
  Im inserting a bunch of gifs and want them to be thumbnails so the page isnt several mb in size.
  How do i add them as a thumbnail gallery so that the thumbnails are a smaller file size linking off to the main images?
  This was easy before but now not so much.
  All i can find in a block is a tiled gallery which has my gifs at varying sizes and full file size.
