How to add topic in a page
-
Hi,
I have recently joined the wordpress and find it great. however, there is a problem that i am unable to solve it. I have made a few pages other than default. But when ever i add a post it always appear in the “default” page. I am unable to find an option to make a post to the page i desired. How can i do this.?Please help me.
Regards, -
you cannot put posts in pages, because pages ARE posts, just that they are separate from the main home page. the only way you can solve this is to blockquote your posts in one page to separate one post from another. http://sulz.wordpress.com/read-her-book/ this is what i did for mine.

Oh! Thanks sulz. i was wondering the same thing…and since one can put pages under “page parents” I figured there was a way to put othere pages under one Main Page. But block quoting works. Cool.
Thanks.

Can someone please tell me how to do what sulz is suggesting as I am confused. Page parents, block quoting?

Here is some info on blockquoting:

Keep in mind that blcokquoting has different looks for different themes. Here is some on parent pages:

You’re welcome. Keep in mind also that different themes show/hide parent and child pages differently. You can do some searches in the forums and faq for that as well. Or visit engtech’s handy theme review to see the different methods each theme designer uses:

Also, remember to check “Show Hierarchy” in the pages widget settings.
I went through a bunch of themes one day fruitlessly looking for one that showed the hierarchy properly until i realized it was a setting on the widget itself :-D

Very true. I had the same experience. I was also talking about how they show/hide them along the top header differently as well.

Thanks for your input judy and ryannjenn! Based on what I learned in another thread, it seems that having multiple pages –child, parent, hierarchy and widgets — may make it more difficult for the reader to get to my posts. I want to make it easy for people to read my posts. Like I have heard before, keep it simple. Anyone have any reflections upon my conclusions.
I am open to learn. I may not understand why one would want to use pages instead of posts, although I have read threads on the subject. If someone can give instances where pages are an advantage over post in / on my blog, I would appreciate the share.
I am also confused on the issue of parent pages, child pages and hierarchies. Please help me understand. Thanks so much.

A page is static and not dynamic like your home page. A page is made when you have information that will not change (ie. a page of links, page of photos, a specific ariticle, profiles of authors, about you page, etc) You can make links to this page (parent or child) from within a post. You can also (depending on the theme) make a page show up on your header or by using the ‘pages’ widget. Hope this helps.
Not necessarily for everyone, but available when the time arises and you see a need for it.
