How to add ‘visit for more’ when viewing a post in Reader
-
Hello. I would like just an excerpt of my post to show up in Reader so that the user has to click on the ‘visit for more’ at the bottom to read the full post on a browser. I have seen it on some other blogs. I tried the ‘more’ block, but it made no difference in Reader.
Is there a way to add that?WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
You would need to create an excerpt for each post in the post settings on the right hand side.
Please see how to do this here: https://wordpress.com/support/excerpts/#create-an-excerpt
I hope this helps.

Thank you. When I see other’s blogs that have the start of their post and then the ‘visit for more’, does that mean they copied and pasted the beginning of their post into the excerpt?

Hi there,
Yes, or it may be that they are using the More Block:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/more-block/2/
Both allow you to do what you are describing.

I know it isn’t the More block, because many blogs I see will end mid-sentence. The More block only works after a block, not in the middle of one. I will use the excerpt tool, thank you.

Well, I tried the Excerpt, and it made no difference in Reader. Any other ideas I can try? Is it because I am on the free version?

Hi there,
After a closer look it seems that displaying the Excerpt/Summary in the WordPress.com Reader is a feature that works only with WordPress.com sites subscribed to a Business plan (or self-hosted WordPress sites using the Jetpack plugin) and is not an option on our free sites. More info here: https://wordpress.com/support/settings/reading-settings/
You can use the More Block to shorten how much of your blog text is shown in the Reader, but there is not another way to force an excerpt to appear, other than to upgrade.
Let us know if you need further assistance or if you have any questions.
