how to allow search engine to index tags of my wordpress blog?

I have been a user of tumblr. I know you tag a post with a label and it will turn up in the search results of tumblr-search.
I move to wordpress. I read about tags and categories and they make sense to me. I tag my posts with particular labels that are uncommon. I published that post last night. It doesn’t show up in the search results of wordpress-search let alone be indexed by search engines.

I have enabled the feature on my blog to allow search engines to index my blog. I am not looking for traffic, I am looking for a method to enable my tags related-to-my-posts to show up in search results of search engines for anybody who is looking for it.

    I would appreciate your help.

PS tags on wordpress are not case sensitive, are they?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Tags are not case sensitive.

New blogs take up to seven weeks to be indexed by search engines.

Brand new blogs don’t get on the tag pages. It takes a few days.

The WP.com search does not and never will search tags.

If you use more than 15 tags and/or categories in a post, you will be classed as a tag spammer and thrown off the tag system.

Thank you for your feedback. Awesome.

I should have written that it’s been a year on WP.

So how does one search for topics on WP? As far as I have read about tags on WP, it is to be indexing a particular blog’s search, is that correct? Tags don’t go beyond a blog?

My maximum tags at any post are not more 15-18 and they all contain words relevance to the topic. I sure hope I’m thrown off the tag system.

Plus, by WP search, I meant the little sidebar module labelled as “tags”. That should index the tag of my blog’s post, yes?

Also, keywords and tags are different here?

I am responding back to this post because I found out about what I was doing wrong.

-SEO or search engine optimization is done by WP.com for your blog. You need not install anything for that.
-keywords and tags are two separate things. Tags are labels you affiliate your blog posts with to maintain organization WITHIN your blog. Keywords are labels that are used to search for something.
-It takes up atleast two-three days for your post to crawl up in the search engine results (mine took 2 days).
-If you wish to optimize/speed up the process of letting your website be crawled, proceed here:

    Very helpful thanks for posting.

I’m new should I be putting more than one catergory on the list or just a single category?

Category is bigger than a tag. It encompasses tags.

For example, if I have a blog and I write articles and journals, I would like to make two categories named “Articles” and “Journal Entries” to affiliate my different posts with a label that people can understand and navigate through my blog. However, tag would be the label that would be narrower than a category and more precise.

Make a list of things that you would talk about or your blog is about. And divide your blog posts into basic categories. Start from simple.

On WordPress.com the distinction is arbitrary; tags and categories work exactly the same. The category widget is better than the tag cloud, though. And some themes feature posts in the header if they have a special designated tag.
