How to archive?

How do i archive my blogs in months?

  • Unknown's avatar

By default, your blog will create the entries into archive months for you. The ‘archive’ widget for your sidebar will show the archive months on your blog for you. What exactly were you hoping to do?

I was looking for archives displayed as a [recursive] expandable list on the following levels :
    >years
    >>months
    >>>article titles
    as the Blogger system proposes

It’s not expandable here. (Those dropdown scripts are really not accessable to those who have vision problems) If you add in the Archive widget to your sidebar, you’ll get a list of the months which you can click though and get those posts for that month in a shortened form. How short depends on teh theme you use.

hello drmike. I’m new to wp.com, interested to migrate from Blogger and so trying to find myself in the feature you at wp propose. I understand your concern for accessibility. The idea I had was something like

    • 2007
      • April
        • Article 22
        • Article 21
    • ….

That will appear like nested lists if javascript is disabled, and collapsed else and there might be none of any accessibility concern (disable js and it’s done.)

But it seems there is no place for javascript in there at wp.com! You must have good reasons. Thanks for answering

    @volem
A clear explanation of why there’s no javascript allowed on this wp multi-user blogging platform is clearly explained here.

    You must have good reasons.

Simple -> We don’t want our sites hacked nor flooded with spammers ruining the service like over at blogger and myspace.

Best bet would be to submit your suggestion on monday via feedback. Gotta admit though that staff appears to leave the theme designs alone unless there’s specific reasons or problems that need to be corrected. Currently the closest thing we have is what I suggested. You may want to take a look at it.

Do you think using a different theme that enables links Archives in a single Page template would answer this question? It doesn’t thread down by each posts but I think there are few Themes that works for this and it even looked more organized than having it in the sidebar.

Edit: Themes that works: Pool, 2813, Blix

Look guys, You speak about accessibility. To me a weblog is not flat: somehow it’s an important feature to be able to get a compact view of the latest articles (i am on a yearly cycle, who chooses its biorythms ?) : and the collaspible view of archives I describe above is such a widget enabling this. On wp.com there is no way to chip chap the coding with a little help of my friend JS, so the only way seems to be begging for new widgets ! I, citizen of the world, was only looking for a way to get rid of the Google Monopole but it seems I don’t find my way here at WP.com, i’m sad about it ;-(

Then do what’s been suggested and send in a feedback requesting this. A blog may not be flat to you and wordpress blogs aren’t but not everyone sees the way teh same way as you do.

I’m sorry you are sad but there is another wordpress alternative you might wish to explore. You can either self host or hire a web host and download a free blog template from http://wordpress.org and perhaps that would better suit your needs. With a wordpress.org blog you can use javascript and hack your theme without compromising anyone’s security but your own. But here on a multi-user blogging platform we can’t. The differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org are laid out in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=3700&page&replies=1
