I am helping a renowned scholar that has shared her research through a WordPress cite since 2008. She is not well and concerned about future scholars ability to research her work. How does one archive a WordPress cite for future scholars?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

If the site is hosted by us (WordPress.com), then the site will remain up and running forever. Even if it’s on a paid plan and the plan expires, it will revert to the free plan and will remain online at no cost.

If it’s not hosted by us, then you need to contact their hosting provider and make sure to create a backup of the site by using the export option.

Please let me know the site’s address so I can point you in the right direction of getting support and let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Fstat,

Sophia responded with the email below so I believe WordPress is hosting her sites. Do you concur?

I have two major wordpress websites they are archived so I don’t continue
to add to them, but still available via the internet

Wordpress send me an emails when someone has sent a comment –
so I respond to the comments, but via email not the websiite

both the below sites are full, they reached text limits:

    https://gurdjieffbooks.wordpress.com (2010)

    and

    https://gurdjieff2013.wordpress.com
(I also have a Music Website from WordPress, but I am not actually using it yet),

is this what you need for confirmation?

    all best Sophia

    Hi Jeffrey (and Sophia),

Both of those sites are indeed running on WordPress.com and we don’t plan to go anywhere. We’ll keep your sites up unless the site owner explicitly deletes the content.

You may still want to export the content just to have backups for your own record but other than that it sounds like you’re all set.

    Sounds good.

How would I go about backing all the content up?

    Hi,

You can export the content by following this guide:

    Export Your Website’s Content

As a tip you may want to import it into a local copy of a WordPress (like stored on your computer) otherwise the media won’t be included. If you’re just looking for a text backup then the XML format will suffice.
