How to archive old pages and comments?

  • Unknown's avatar

My pages are detailed subjects which I want to change fortnightly/monthly. I then want to archive the old page and its comments. I would like another archiving page where they are listed, which can be searched.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Are you looking to archive your posts or your pages? The process is going to be a bit different for each. If you let me know which one you’re referring to and perhaps point me to the URL of a currently active post/page you would like to archive in the future, I’ll be able to help more!

    Hi Jeremy,
I take it that posts is the home page which seems already to archive monthly on the sidebar. I would also like to archive pages. Ideally there would be a separate archive page where I could archive those extracts I choose from Posts and pages and perhaps even comments. This archive page would have a search widget.

A typical page is http://russianresolution/Folk Tales or /politics etc. Taking Folk tales as an example I want to put a new folk tale every month (there are two there at the moment and I want to archive Sadko).
This is my first blog and I can’t do complicated programming. Is there a plug in to help me to do this archiving?

    Thanks for your help.
    Jake

    Hey Jake,

We don’t allow plugins at WordPress.com, but we should be able to accomplish what you’re looking for without them.

Your home page is set to display your blog posts with the latest posts appearing at the top. When you publish a certain number of posts to your blog (10 right now), the oldest posts will be swept onto another page. I believe you’re looking for a way for readers to constantly see all posts on a certain topic (new or old).

The easiest way to do that would be to setup a category page as explained here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/

For example, if you create a category called “Folk” and assign it to all new posts in that category, the new posts will automatically be added to the “Folk” category page. This way, if a reader wants to see all of your posts about “Folk”, they can click that page and voila! Would that work?

Regarding search results, all of your posts will always be included in any search inquiry on your site. Nothing special needed for that!

    Hi Jeremey,

    Thanks, I think I understand:

For each page I could have a sub page e.g. Folk – sub menu Folk archive, where all Folk categories end up. Similarly for other pages , Political – sub menu etc.

    I’ll give it a go.

Correct! Please give this a go and let me know if you run into any trouble or if it doesn’t accomplish what you’re looking for.
