How to assign a "category" name to a post

This is a blog post that has already been posted. How do I change the category assigned to it?
I saw how to create a new category, which I did, but I don’t know how to assign it to a post that is now showing as “uncategorized”.

Sure, no problem. Select the post you want to edit from your Dashboard list of All Posts. On the post edit page, you can change the categories in the same pane (on the right) that you initially set them in. Uncheck the category you want to remove, and check the category (or categories) you want to add. Click Update!

Well, I did that but on the right there is nowhere that I can see to change the category.
On the right it says:
Status: Published – edit
Visibility: Public – edit
Revisions: 3 – browse
Published on: Oct 1 – edit
Publicize – edit – settings
Move To Trash ———————– Update -
Oh Dear Lord, I found it. On the right up at the very top is a drop down box that says “Screen Options” when I clicked that, there’s a bunch of stuff that when checked show up on the screen to the right and “category” is one of them!!! Then I could change the category. Good Grief!! lol.
