How to assign a role to someone without a WordPress blog?

    I’m trying to give Author roles to ten people so that any of them can post on the blog. However, they are not all computer savvy nor would they want to create and use a blog. Is there a way that they can register as a WordPress user and yet avoid creating a blog? (I suppose I could create a second account using one of my alternate email addresses and have address 1 invite address 2 as an Author and then distribute out the address 2 email and password to the ten folks.) Any thoughts?

    they should be able to register and not get a blog – a blog will be reserved for their account name – but not required to have a blog – but I am told the just register but not have a blog is a bit hidden
