How to automate image upload actions using Mac?

MY QUESTION IS ABOUT AUTOMATING JPG IMAGE UPLOAD or INSERTING SINGLE JPGS INTO BLOG AFTER BATCH UPLOAD INTO GALLERY

I like the new look wp and so far I’ve found my way round the changes without any problems. I use Camino 1.5.3 on Mac OSX 10.4.11.

However, image upload now takes much longer. Here’s my problem: I greatly appreciate new gallery facility, but in this case I must upload jpg images as per the previous version of wordpress, ie inserting single jpgs into a page or post.

And I have a lot of jpgs to upload.

If I upload the folder as a batch, I can’t see any facility to go into the gallery and subsequently insert each image into my blog singly.

So jpg upload now takes much longer than before – there are more actions needed!

If it is not possible to batch upload into gallery and then insert jpgs into a blog without using the gallery link format, has anyone discovered any easy way to automate the necessary actions using a Mac?

Mac does have ‘automator’ but i can’t see how i can adapt that to wordpress. Ideally I need something similar to Photoshop automated actions, where I simply press ‘record’ and add the subsequent actions to a shortcut key.

The blog I’m working on is similar to my Cyclemaster Museum blog – http://www.cyclemaster.wordpress.com, the pages have simple layout of mixed text and jpgs.

  • If you upload many images as a batch, you can insert them one at a time. Click on the Show link beside each item, then Insert Into Post. The Show links are on the main tab of the upload box if you just uploaded them, or the Media Library tab if you uploaded them previously.

Thanks. After your advice, I realize now that insert post only becomes available in media library not gallery.

Unfortunately, accessing media library to insert post each time is even more long-winded than uploading jpgs one at a time from computer.

I’ll buy some automation software to see which works best with the increased work required, and report back so other users can benefit if they have the same problem.

I’m trying Keyboard Maestro but there’s no way I can get it to work to automate wordpress actions.

Has anyone out there successfully added macros to wordpress actions?

I will look into this, as it is potentially interesting to me as well. My answer may take some time, however.

I’m sure there are plenty of us who want to continue uploading quantities of individual jpgs into our blogs? Although the image gallery link is a neat idea and a useful addition to wp, it does not suit every blog and it’s annoying that normal jpg upload now takes so many more actions in the new version!

It seems that macro software records keystrokes, which doesn’t work with blog software. So maybe an independent blog editor would do the job?

There seem to be quite a few 3rd party blog editors on the market. Surely someone on wordpress uses one that’s intuitive and is an easier way to load images to our blogs?

I’ll start a new question on 3rd party blog editors

Actually (on Camino 1.6 beta) I am able to insert single images from a former upload into a post by choosing them from the media library.

The problem is I have many jpgs to upload; even now that i can see how to insert from media library it still involves scrolling, selecting image size, etc etc. My hand’s gonna freeze after 100 jpgs and my eyes are going to hurt from concentrating on scrolling down each time, and then selecting full size from a box requiring individual selection. It is definitely not user-friendly.

I’ve just downloaded 3rd party image editor called ecto which is mac compatible. Only been playing with it for 10 minutes, but have easily added jpgs – each image upload takes only 4 ACTIONS with no scrolling down page. And that includes downloading each image to a new wordpress post.

I’ve not yet seen how to load directly to a page; but easy enough so far to copy the post into a page.

Not sure why I couldn’t find posts on wordpress forum about how to speed up tasks like this. Maybe i used the wrong search terms?
