How to avoid 30 day limit on reusing email after account deletion?
-
I noticed that my blog is using an old email address of mine. I have access to that account but I don’t check it very often, so I’d like to switch it to my main email address. When I tried, I discovered that I had already created a profile with my main address, though I hadn’t done anything with that profile. OK, I thought, I’ll just delete that profile and then I can switch. Not so fast! said the warning message; should I delete the profile, I’ll have to wait 30 days before I can reuse its email address. Is there any way I can connect my blog to my main email address without waiting the 30 days?

Hello,
You sure can! :)
Below is a link to the documentation that can help you with this.

The profile the blog is currently attached to is billblake2018. The profile it would get moved to is billblake2018d4125c27cc and for obvious reasons I don’t want to use that as my username. Since the only thing of importance in billblake2018 is the blog, I can delete it after I move the blog. But will I then be able to rename billblake2018d4125c27c to billblake2018?

Hello,
No. Usernames cannot be reused after deletion. The reason being is to prevent any type of impersonation after the fact.
If I may inquire, what is the reason on why you want to delete the original account rather than just move everything over to it so you can keep that username, blog, etc.?

I use the username billblake2018 on most of my accounts, and I’d like to continue to do so here. I also prefer that name to billblake2018d4125c27cc. And I need to switch email accounts on billblake2018 because I’m about to start something on my blog where I will likely want to archive and download my WP email, which I can’t do with the old email address.
That said, I remembered a workaround.
I use gmail, which has a feature that allows one to add +something to one’s username and still get the email. So what I did was change the email address on the billblake2018 account from its old value to (email visible only to moderators and staff). That, as far as you are concerned, is a different email address from (email visible only to moderators and staff), the one used by billblake2018d4125c27cc, so I was allowed to make the change. And since that account no longer has any reason for existence, I’ll delete it. Then in 30 days, I can remove the +wp from the email address if I want to.
BTW, gmail is not the only email provider that allows the +something addition, so it’s a useful thing to keep in mind.
Problem solved. :)
