How to backup with free plan

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to download my blog to my windows pc. I have a free plan so I am not allowed to upload plugins.
I did an export, but I do not know how to proceed to get any data out of the blog dow to my pc. The files generated by export only contains some xml code to be used … How?
I would like to save my whole blog on my pc, with media files etc.
I am doing a circumnavigation and am only occasionally on wifi and would like to have my blog on my pc to read it locally once in a while, even if I am not connected.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    This is a great question.

As you’ve figured out, the export process is designed to be then imported, and it is not friendly to the eye or possible to read it as you wanted.

With 311 posts, it might be difficult to manually copy+paste them in to a word program.

An alternative would be to use a program that will convert your blog in to a book. You should be able to get a digital file out of that process. Google, “blog to book”

There are multiple services out there that offer this. I’ve never used it personally so I can’t give a personal recommendation. I do think you’ll get the desired outcome through this option.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I finally solved it by doing this:
    1) Changed number of posts to display in “Reading” pane to show many posts in one go.
    2) Then I displayed one year at the time:
    https://lingsegling.wordpress.com/2018/?order=asc
    3) cntrl-a , cntrl-c to copy them all to clipboard
    4) cntrl-v to paste them into a word document and then save to pdf.
So now I am happy :-)
