How to block hack attempts

    Dear Supernovia,

My site bpcondo.hu is being attacked by hackers for the last 3 days. I receive plenty of auto-emails about failed login attempts. I changed the lockout settings, but still I receive many emails.

Is there a way to block any login attempt for a while? Or set an IP address which can be the only IP to login from? I saw the premium service for blocking IPs by country and etc, but I dont have money for that plan.

    Thank you very much!
    Gabor

  • Hi Gabor! I split your question into a new thread as it seems like it might be slightly different.

Is your site hosted here with us? If so, we have tools and teams that watch for suspicious activity like that to keep your site safe. You shouldn’t be getting a lot of login attempts like that, so if you are, please send a link to the site so we can help.

If you are using your own copy of WordPress, your host may be able to help you set up a system that blocks access after so many failed login attempts. Or, you can use Jetpack’s Brute Force protection; it’ll also auto block after so many failed logins:

Brute Force Attack Protection for WordPress Sites

Jetpack offers some of our premium services for your own copy of WordPress, and that’s one feature I’d highly recommend. Just be sure you keep your login here safe in case you need to unblock an IP.
