How to bring traffic–key words?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Guys–
I’ve been reading about things like Google keywords tool and SEO. I’m confused.
I seriously lack expertise, but back when I worked with Front Page I would insert key words into the HTML, which was easy since the keywords position in the HTML was obvious. I looked at a Google tutorial but it seems to be in connection to having ads for your business. My blog is political writing, I’m not selling a physical product. The Google thing even said something about putting a key word into my URL–didn’t get it.
Is there a simple WordPress (or any) tool (or tools) for increasing traffic. Perhaps a tutorial to help an untutored guy like me?
    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. WordPress.com comes with excellent SEO already built in, so you can just focus on creating good quality original content. See here: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/04/11/seo-and-your-blog/

I was reading: “Post Title & Permalink URL.” About the post slug.
I would like to alter the end of each post URL (following date) to catch the attention of searches with stronger tag words or short phrases.
Can you please tell me how to reach the URL edit area for these substitutions.
    Thanks

In regard to “Viewpoints” category to the right of my Home Page posts: there are 3 cropped (smaller versions) images in a vertical column. The only reference to those posts that are not visible is at the very bottom of the page, where it says, “Older Posts.” This older designation may suggest that they have become less relevant, which is not true. They are still topical. Is there any way to extend this column of cropped images to bring the “Older Posts” to visibility, thereby keeping them relevant? Does this require an upgrade?
    Thanks.

  • Can you please tell me how to reach the URL edit area for these substitutions.

You do this in the post editor. Go to the WP-Admin dashboard and click on Posts ->All Posts. Click the Edit link under any post to edit that post. In the editor, look for the slug-module. If you can’t see it, click on Screen Options at the top of the screen and make sure it’s selected. You can also edit the permalink directly below the post title in the editor: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/new-post-screen/#post-title-and-permalink-url

at the very bottom of the page, where it says, “Older Posts.”

That button is normal – it’s how WordPress.com works. On any blog with widgets in the footer, only a limited number of posts load on the home page at a time. It looks like your site is currently set to display nine. If someone clicks on Older Posts the next nine will load, and so on and so forth. On a site without footer widgets you can activate infinite scroll, meaning the next nine posts load automatically when you reach the bottom. You can set how many posts display at a time from Settings ->Reading in the dashboard, but I’d advise against making the number bigger than it already it – having too many posts load at a time increases your site’s loading speed which is bad for both SEO and general user experience. It also means people will never see your footer widgets.

there are 3 cropped (smaller versions) images in a vertical column.

I think that is your theme’s featured content. It can display up to four posts that you assign a special featured tag. See your theme’s support doc on this: https://wordpress.com/themes/chronicle/support/

I’m not completely sure, so I suggest you post in your theme’s dedicated support forum for more help with that section – we can’t provide support for premium themes in the general support forum: http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/chronicle

    Hi–
I’m interested in sharing my blog posts on Google+. I went to the page: “WordPress would like to.” I clicked on Google and it referred to my “Circle of Friends.” What is that? I’d simply like to share (nothing personal) my posts from my blog to the public, to extend my reach. Nothing more than that. I don’t want to share my friends with a public format. Is this the wrong program for me?
    Thanks.

Yes it is. Share MANUALLY to G+.

Yes it is wrong for me? And “Share MANUALLY to G+” is confusing. I understand the word “manually,” but not the suggestion, if it is a suggestion. If it is, how do I do it?
    Thanks.

  • To share your posts to G+ manually, view the post in your browser, copy the URL from the browser’s address bar, and then paste that into the status box on your G+ profile. Then you can select whether it must be visible for everyone (public), just people in your circles, or only specific circles.

Or you can add the sharing button to your posts and just click that to share to G+. See here for instructions on adding the sharing button: https://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/

    Hi–
I updated my Google profile. I copied and pasted my WordPress blog’s URL into the proper place ( I hope), and was then informed that I hadn’t inserted my email address. I only have one address and I consider it private. Is it possible to have a WordPress blog email address for the public, having nothing to do with my privacy?
    Thanks.

Do you actually have a Gmail address? If you don’t have one of those you won’t be able to use GooglePlus. That’s most likely the address Google is asking for, but I don’t know, as I have no idea on what page you inserted this information. This isn’t a WordPress.com setting, so we can’t help you with it here.
