    Can I build a free site with wordpress or do I need a host – like bluehost? very confused and new at all this

    There are two flavors of WordPress.

    WordPress.org is a free and open-source software that’s designed, developed, and improved upon by many contributors around the world. You can choose a hosting company like Bluehost and use WordPress.org there. Basically, any WordPress site that’s not hosted by us is called a self-hosted WordPress.org site.

    With WordPress.org sites, you are more responsible for the technical side of things — such as keeping your software up to date, maintaining security, backups, etc.

    Then there’s us — WordPress.com. We provide a managed WordPress hosting solution where we take care of the majority of the server-related technical things so you can focus on creating content.
