How to build a site that supports two languages (Fr or En)
-
Hi
I would like to build a site in two languages: French and English.
Is it possible to ad something like a “Choose your language” option somewhere on a site (like at the top right corner or in the footer) ?
Or does the Templates can only support one language.
Many thanks,
Alain

Oh, I looked at it briefly.
I think it’s a tool to translate a blog.
I don’t want to translate mine.
I want to be able to offer it both in French and in English.I was wondering if it was possible to ad a “French/ English” button somewhere to give my user the opportunity to either visit the french or the english pages of m site depending on their needs.
Maybe through a plug-in ?

If you want to add the buttons in the sidebar, you can use either the Image Widget or Text Widget.

Hi again.
Thank your for you help.
But I’m not sure my question is clear ;-)
Basically, what I want is to create a bilingual site (French and English) from the same Theme template.
And I want to offer my users the opportunity to switch from the french to the english version of my site (or vice-versa) from a simple click on a link, or a button or anything else.
And as per the Admin point of view, I would like all my site pages (french and english) to be available in the same WordPress Theme Dashboard.
But I think it might not be possible.
I might have to create two identical sites, one in french and the other in english, and ad the button or link you are referring to in your previous answer.Am I right ?
Thx again for your help and consideration.

I see. To do you so you’ll need to create the content in both language by creating multiple blogs or posts/pages. Otherwise you can use the translation widget: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/
There are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested.

Great.
That’s what I figured.
But then I guess I would need to look for a template that allow the creation/ use of 2 menus.

You can follow the instructions in this guide on how to create your own custom menu: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus . This works with almost any theme/template.
