How to buy just a domain ($18/yr) with the free plan?

I recently signed up for wordpress and I would really like my own domain (so it ends in just .com). I saw that wordpress offers them for $18 a year, however when I went to the settings and upgrade option it only redirects me to their $99 a year plan. Is there a way to stay on the free plan and buy JUST the domain and if so where/how to do that?
I know that $18 a year isn’t the best deal but I’ve looked into outside hosting and domains for wordpress.org and long story short I’m a poor college kid who can front $20 for a website not $100+ for the year.

According to staff, that option is no longer available for $18. It’s only available as part of the Premium (or Business) plan:
