How to Buy Just VideoPress for External Site

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to help a client purchase only VideoPress for their self-hosted site.

They have already created a wordpress.com account and site.

    1. They start at: https://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/videopress/
    2. They click “Get VideoPress”
    3. They are taken to this page where you can only buy a “plan:”
      https://wordpress.com/plans/83957670

Strangely, when I do that with my account that has multiple sites, the “Get VideoPress” button is a dropdown that lets me select a site and add the $60 VideoPress upgrade to the cart.

How can I help this client purchase only VideoPress?

From the relevant support doc: http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/

VideoPress, included with the WordPress.com Premium and WordPress.com Business plans, allows you to upload videos from your computer for hosting and playback directly within your blog.

What is your client’s WordPress.COM username account please so we can see when it was registered.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m already subscribed.

I’d prefer to keep the client’s site private on this public forum if possible since it won’t ever be a public-facing site.

The site was created on January 29, 2015.

To really really clear, I don’t want the Premium or Business plans, I want to by only VideoPress for $60/year.

Videopress is no longer available for standalone purchase, that’s the issue.

    Hi again,
I understand that you want this upgrade for an external site. I only linked to the relevant WordPress.COm support doc so you would be aware of the change. We WordPress.COM bloggers who registered username accounts after September 1st, 2015 cannot purchase an individual videopress upgrade. We have to purchase the one of the bundles.

I’m not sure how Staff will handle this or what the price will be for an external site but not to worry as the thread is tagged for their attention. Please be patient while waiting.

Ok. That’s really disappointing and frustrating since this is the first I’ve heard of this and their website, plugin (and Jetpack too), documentation, and product page all make no mention of this limitation.

Is VideoPress no longer intended for self-hosted sites?

    Hi again,
This thread is already tagged for Staff and they have a backlog. What’s required is your patience as Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in chronological order based on datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.

How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.

Please don’t bump your thread here by posting into it again because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response.

  • To purchase videopress for a self-hosted WordPress site, you will want to start here:

    Home

The WordPress.com upgrade link that you posted won’t work for a self-hosted site.

Let me know if you have any trouble.

Thanks, staff-ozmodiar. I had tried that too and failed.

When the client first tried to buy VideoPress, they started on VideoPress.com. I’m not sure how, but they got confused and were unable to finish the process because they were redirected to the Plans page, even from there (as I understand it, at least). Now, when I go there (logged in as them), #Step2 of the signup does not let me use their WP.com site because it already exists. Do I need to create another one? Can I delete the old one and recreate it?

    ==================================

@timethief, I dutifully stopped responding but I want to share with you that I did not connect “I tagged this thread for Staff assistance” with any need to stop adding additional clarifying information. I am well aware of bumping a thread and had no intention of doing that. Hope that can help with future conversations.

  • So, it looks like there’s a glitch there.

However, the good news is that I can help set up VideoPress manually for your client. What is their WordPress.com site URL?

  • Unknown's avatar

    It’s trecwild.wordpress.com.

  • Okay, I should have that set up. Connect to jetpack and let me know if things are working correctly.

  • Unknown's avatar

Great. Looked like that worked. How do I buy it now?

  • Consider it a gift for uncovering a glitch that I was unaware of.

  • Happy to help.

Going forward, they should be able to renew through their WordPress.com dashboard normally when the time comes.
