How to cancel a Cpanel hosting (a mistake) without them taking down my WP site

Hi, I’ve discovered my wordpress.com site http://www.janetpoole.com is also hosted with Cpanel. What happened was a publishing company inadvertently purchased hosting for me 2 years ago when I published my book with them. So now I am hosted with WP AND with Cpanel. The issue came to my attention when Cpanel recently charged for another 2 years of hosting – which I don’t need :)

My main issue is I’d like to cancel the Cpanel hosting but am concerned they have the power to take down my site (www.janetpoole.com)

Do you have any suggestions to avoid this happening when I cancel Cpanel? My WP site was up and running way before hosting was inadvertently purchased with Cpanel.

I’d very much appreciate your ideas.
And while I’m here I love my WordPress site, WP is brilliant!
    Warm regards
    Janet

  • Hi Janet! Thanks for your kind words. I’ll be happy to clear things up. :-)

janetpoole.com is hosted at WordPress.com, so cPanel (which is actually a web hosting control panel than a host) or, likely, your web host isn’t linked to that domain.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Bryan I appreciate your response, that’s reassuring.

I’ve now been informed that within cpanel it’s hosted at justhost.com, so that’s what I’d be cancelling. As I’m not tech savvy with this, please would you confirm for me
    1) that WP is covering both hosting as well as domain name registration for janetpoole.com (I pay WP for janetpoole.com registration)
    2) when I cancel justhost.com I will still have janetpoole.com running live.

I just need to be sure :)
    Thanks, Janet

  • Cool, thanks for the additional information. :-)

    1. You’re currently paying for the domain mapping upgrade (Store -> My Upgrades), which is different than domain registration. The domain whois information show that your domain registrar is “AUST DOMAINS INTERNATIONAL PTY LTD DBA AUST DOMAINS, INC.”
    2. Yes.

    Hi Bryan,
Thanks so much for your reply. Point #2 is exactly what I wanted to hear, and you’re correct with #1, that clarifies the situation and I learned something.

I’m satisfied with those answers now, thanks for your time :)
