How to cancel domain

I am thinking of changing domain hosting site. Can I cancel the domain (I don’t need the money back) and buy the domain immediately on the new site?

See this page on how to cancel a domain:

There are also some other options available (depending on the age of your domain).

You could point the domain to your new web host by changing the name servers or you could transfer your domain to a different web registrar. If you just purchased the domain, then there is a 60 day waiting period.

No. Do not rely on that.
You can transfer a domain to another registrar once 60 have passed from the date of registration. There are instructions here:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

What you may want to do instead is simply point your domain to a new webhost using these instructions:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

If you cancel a domain, it is held by the domain registrar and may be sold in auction or otherwise made unavailable to you.

If you wish to use it with a different hosting platform, in most cases all you need to do is update the nameservers as timethief indicated. For a few platforms they require a bit more assistance (A Records/CNAMEs), so if that’s the case in your situation, just let us know what needs to be updated and we’ll take care of that for you.

You can also transfer the domain to a different registrar. There is no cost to do so but the new registrar will likely require you to renew it for at least one year with them.
