How to Cancel Expired Registration

So I recently was made responsible for a site and found that its premium domain has expired. It seems prohibitively expensive to try to get the domain back so I went ahead and just purchased a new domain. Then I got this message when I went to the site: “Your blog’s domain kempmalone.com stopped functioning on Saturday, September 6, 2014 and visitors who come to the web address kempmalone.com cannot find your site any more. Please note the domain kempmalonelecture.com that is pointing to this blog was also deactivated until kempmalone.com is either renewed or canceled.” Will the expired domain just automatically be canceled at the end of the 80 day post-expiration period (I am currently on day 64) or do I actually need to do something to cancel it. I can’t find any info about this or any way to cancel it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Adam,
You shouldn’t have to do anything, but since you seem to have replaced it with kempmalonelecture.com, I think it’ll be better to have your old domain kempmalone.com cancelled.
I’ve tagged this topic for a Staff follow-up. They’ll be able to help you cancel your old domain.

Thank you pmciano. The issues I was having with the new domain kempmalonelecture.com not redirecting to kempmalone.wordpress.com (which according to the message were being caused by kempmalone.com not being cancelled) are now done. Thanks for your help.
