how to categorize my projects?

  • Unknown's avatar

i am using the espied theme to showcase my portfolio. I have projects under the broader categories of visual comm, advertising and interaction design. but the feature images all line up together. i am trying to figure out how to categorize individual projects to the categories they belong on the home screen, so that one click on either of these categories takes you to the list of projects under that category. for ex. if i click on vis. com, i am taken to the page where just vis com projects are featured. please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Does consulting the detailed theme description page provide any helpful information? http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/espied/

Also read this please https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and note that categories and tags can only be assigned to posts. They cannot be assigned to pages.

Hello jkritisha, I’m having same issue with the Sketch theme. I want to categorise my projects rather than have them all appear on the portfolio page in date order. So for example, when you click on the portfolio page, you see the categories i.e. Illustrations, Logos, Branding etc, then within each of these categories are the individual projects relating to that category. At the moment I can only achieve this if I create one project for each category i.e. Illustrations and have all my illustrative projects on one project page (arranged in galleries to further sub divide), however, this doesn’t allow me to elaborate on each project as they are all lumped in together. I’m afraid I don’t know what the answer is, but am keen to know!
The page in question is https://hboosey.wordpress.com/portfolio/

Hey Helen, I can’t stack them all together because I am keen on showing the process. And I am afraid that people lose interest if there’s too much on one page. ATM, I m trying to categorize them via project types and rearrange the feature images so that projects under any one category are shown together. Also, I ll use a custom menu to give more clarity.

Yes agreed, I tried it last night having all my illustrations under one project and its too much. What drew me to the Sketch theme was the simplicity of having one project per page. Also I’m keen to show photos of how the various projects were used, so for example people wearing the shirts with the logo on etc. It shows that these are real projects, not just a project for a portfolio. I’m going to keep playing with it too and see if I can find a way. I’ll try using a custom menu. :)

    Hi there,

I’d recommend reviewing our Portfolios support page for ideas about setting up your portfolio projects. Your theme’s portfolio template has a specific layout that can’t be changed, but you have other options if you’d like to display specific projects together.

For example, you can categorize your portfolio projects with project types and tags, and then view the projects that have each type or tag on their own page. You can also use the Portfolio Shortcode on a page to display all the projects with a particular type or tag.
