How to change a blog name

If I change my blog’s name, do I need to purchase a domain name, too? And what happens to the posts on my old blog? Can I move them to the new blog?

You can change your site’s address follow the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/changing-site-address/ no purchase necessary.
When you do that, the only thing that changes will be the name, the rest of your site will be as you left it.
