Hi,
The background displayed on the top section and on each panel of the Pique front page is created from the featured image set on each corresponding page, unless no featured image is set, in which case the background palette set at Customize > Colors & Backgrounds will determine the background displayed.

No. There can be only one page with the paneled front page layout on the Pique theme, the one set as the static front page. In the topic Pique theme – Can I have TWO pages with panels?, staff member @kathrynwp makes the following suggestion (link added):
Shoreditch allows you to apply a multi-panel template to more than one page. Choose the “Panel Page Template” for each page on which you’d like multiple panels.
