How to change blog browser from “Reader” to “RSS”
-
Hello– RSS feeds are the norm for blogs but I can’t seem to figure out an easy way to give readers a subscription to my blog, other than using an RSS Link widget on the right sidebar which I don’t like, would rather it be in the header or included with the Share options, but doesn’t seem this Theme allows for that. And even with the widget it seems like the only option if I click on other blogs that have it, is to subscribe the old fashioned way.
So my questions are: 1) can I offer the same RSS/subscriber options as some other websites (with the drop down menu for choices once clicking on the icon (see this one for example- http://www.webmarketingtherapy.com/blog/) and 2) how can I use the automatic option provided by WP per the post below from the support section. It says it’s an automatic option so that the RSS icon shows in the browser window and all I need to is add /feed/ to my url, but I can’t figure out how to DO that, i.e, in Settings I see no option to add to my permanent url (my blog browser window currently shows Reader). I have Safari BTW. Please advise, thx for the help!
Under this section http://en.support.wordpress.com/feeds/ it says:
Every WordPress.com blog has multiple feeds. The main content feed can be accessed by adding /feed/ to your blog’s URL (But HOW do I do that?). Here is the feed of the official WordPress.com blog, as an example: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/feed/You may also notice that your web browser shows a special icon in the address bar or tool bar when visiting a site that provides a feed (which would work fine for me if that’s the case, just can’t figure out how to get the icon in my site).
The following examples are feeds from the Official WordPress.com Blog. To use these with your own blog, just replace en.blog with your own domain (Where? How??).
As well as providing a feed for your post content, WordPress.com also provides several other types for your blog:
Main Content http://en.blog.wordpress.com/feed
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, that is certainly an option for a work-around, thank you. Do you happen to know the specific answers to the 2 questions as well? Thx!

Your blog post feed would be http://lbev.wordpress.com/feed/
Your blog comment feed would be http://lbev.wordpress.com/comments/feed/All modern browsers, when they detect you are on a page with a feed, will show either “reader” (in the case of Safari or something else like “RSS” or perhaps the standard RSS icon in the browser tool bar. If you go to your page called “Lydia’s Blog” you will see that it will change and show “RSS.” That is something built into the browser, not something that you actually set.

Actually, what is happening is that when you are on a page without a feed (your main page) then the “reader” icon shows up where you can easily change the text size or email or print the page. If you are on a page that has an RSS feed, such as your blog page, then the RSS icon will show up.
I find the reader page very useful for low contrast sites, or sites with small fonts.

Ah, gotcha, so there’s no way to indicate RSS on the home/landing page browser, which is what I was trying to do and what the support instructions cited were about. The menu is good enuf, at least it works. And if I want to have the standard RSS orange icon, I would have to use the Widget link option it seems, only choice for this Theme.
And what about question #1 — is there a way to provide Reader options within the feed display? Versus the default display which is to choose email or bookmark?

No, since that is a “static” front page, it has no RSS feed. Only the pages that show posts have RSS feeds.
