How to change character size??

  • Unknown's avatar

I highlighted the whole long text and Typography showed up! I changed char size to Medium and clicked on Update, but after clicking on View Post the text turned microscopic again. Should I reactivate Firefox extensions, or do you admit that WordPress is all crap?

  • Hello there,

It sounds and looks like what you did there was correct. When I visit https://schmurrblog.wordpress.com/2021/01/30/tapino/ I’m actually seeing a medium sized text.

You may wish to clear your browser cache. Please see instructions on how to do this here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache.

    Many thanks.

By mistake I highlighted one only sentence and lo’ and behold: smaller portions can change font size! But all sizes including medium become microscopic again: you must use Large or Huge. I’m not too satisfied, but better too large than too small! Thanks to everybody!

I disabled Firefox extensions, I cleared cache again just now and also cookies, but still on my PC the characters remain either microscopic or very large. However today on the PC at school I succeeded in visualizing medium chars! So please give me a list of all the criteria a computer has to fulfil in order to be able to visualize WordPress correctly…!

I have Windows 10, by the way.

  • Can you try pressing CTRL+0 to see if your browser zoom just needs to be reset? It sounds like that might be the issue.

  • Unknown's avatar

    CTRL+zero nothing happens,
    CTRL+ letter O opens download.

  • Could you share a screenshot of what you see on your end?
You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.

I’m pretty sure the issue is with your browser settings.

Do you mean the microscopic characters? Here it is:

Char size in Firefox settings was 12, I changed it to 14 now but nothing changed.
    Thank you in advance!

https://schmurrblog.wordpress.com/2021/01/30/tapino/ looks fine to me. Have you tried looking at your site on a different device or via a different browser (when logged out).

On Chrome, everything is very large and thus also that page. Can’t WP be made to work on Firefox too?

  • Hi there,

    CTRL+ letter O opens download.

Actually, can you instead try CTRL + 0 (number zero) instead? Control + zero will reset the zoom scale of your browser, to make sure no zooming out is taking place.

To clarify, when I visit your site the text is larger than the “default” size of the text for your theme, so I can confirm that I do not see it as small on my end. Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing, your site on the left, demo site on the right:

You can see in my screenshot that your site uses a larger font than the demo site. It does not appear small to me. Please try Control + Zero and let us know if that makes your text size larger, thanks! :)

As I said, on pressing Control + Zero nothing happens.

  • Hello there,

    Ok just to recap..

However today on the PC at school I succeeded in visualizing medium chars!

You’re seeing the desired outcome on the PC at school, but not on your computer at home?

If yes, please can you provide a screenshot of the computer at home whereby the typography is large?

    Many thanks in advance.

Here is the screenshot of the too large chars obtained by selecting Large: https://snipboard.io/s3AhfR.jpg
I already published the screenshot of the too small chars obtained on my computer by selecting Medium: https://snipboard.io/pCGx81.jpg
    Thanks.

  • It looks like you’re facing a combination of problems with your browser, and problems with the character size settings in the post.

I gather you want them to just be normal sized, so to simplify, can you start by changing the font size in the post/page to normal sizing, and let’s test the different browsers? Here’s what I see currently in Firefox and Chrome:

  • Unknown's avatar

Now it’s Font Size Normal: more microscopic than ever! I expected nothing else. By the way: Why do you always throw me out both of my page and of the forum page, so that I have to log in twice each day? And: Is there a possibility to hilight a long text just by a click? There ought to be, but I have little hope after all these disappointments…

By the way: Why do you always throw me out both of my page and of the forum page, so that I have to log in twice each day?

WordPress.com uses login cookies to store your login, so if you’re being prompted to log in frequently, you likely have a setting in your browser to not store cookies for WordPress.com. Check your browser settings and make sure that *.wordpress.com is allowed to store cookies and that should take care of that.

Back to your particular issue, I’d like to clarify one thing: you said originally that “When I paste my text” – where are you composing that text? It’s possible that you’re pulling over formatting information that is causing issues. Also, is this the only post you’re having this problem?

Otherwise, to select all the text in Windows, you can use Control+A. Let us know how that goes!

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for Ctrl+A – not everything is compatible… I set the exceptions for WP in Firefox and now it works!!! Thank you everybody!!
