  • Hi there,

    Because you have the Custom Design upgrade, you can do this by going to Appearance->Customize. There, you can change the fonts in the Fonts tab, the colors in the Colors tab, and you can also edit the theme’s CSS. More about these options here:

    Custom Colors

    Good Afternoon

    Many thanks for you reply. Sorry to bother you again, but I did try and follow the instructions which you kindly gave above, but I’m still stuck! (I guess I’m not very good at following instructions !!).

    Basically, I want to edit my website and make the following changes:

    1. Change the color, font, and size of the tabs running along the top of the page.
    2. Be able to change the text colour and size on each page.
    3. Delete the following:
    a. The text going down on the left hand column.
    b. The name ‘search’ and the corresponding box next to it.
    c. The text ‘share this’, and ‘leave a reply’.

    Thanks in advance for your response.

  • First, to answer some of your specific questions:

    2. Be able to change the text colour and size on each page.

    If you want to make changes to individual posts and pages, rather than to your theme as a whole, you’ll want to use the Text editor and HTML, as described here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/styling-individual-posts-and-pages/

    There are also some simple toolbar buttons that will let you change font color, etc., so play around with those. :)

    3. Delete the following:
    a. The text going down on the left hand column.

    This is a widget. You can drag any widget out of your sidebar by going to Appearance->Widgets here:
    https://chathabooks.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

    b. The name ‘search’ and the corresponding box next to it.

    For this, you’d need to use CSS, since that search bar is a feature of this particular theme. You’d paste the following into the CSS editor in Appearance->Customize->CSS:

    #search {
    display: none;
    }

    c. The text ‘share this’, and ‘leave a reply’.

    You can disable sharing buttons in Settings->Sharing:
    https://chathabooks.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=sharing

    You can disable comments in Settings->Discussion.
    https://chathabooks.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php

    But note that Settings->Discussion changes aren’t retroactive, so for any posts or pages that were already published before you changed that, you’ll need to edit the individual post/page and find the Discussion module here, below the editor:
    http://cl.ly/image/3G35052g350i

    If you don’t see the Discussion module there, click the Screen Options tab in the upper-right corner of that screen and put a check next to ‘Comments’ in the box that expands:
    Screen Options

    As far as this more general request:

    1. Change the color, font, and size of the tabs running along the top of the page.

    Essentially, there are some settings in Customize-> Colors and Fonts that change certain aspects of your site universally. You can play with those to see what they control.

    Then, if you want to change other aspects of your theme’s appearance from what those options control, you’ll need to use CSS. This takes a bit of knowledge.

    We’ve got a great series on the Daily Post teaching our users basic CSS. You should check these out! They’re a big help:

    If you have specific questions after that, you can ask in the CSS Customization forum here for tips:

    If you have quite a lot of customizations and you’re not sure how to do them, you can ask for a quote from this service, which will customize your theme for you:

    Hopefully this will help get you started! Let me know if you have further questions as you go along. :)
