How to change color of dropdown menu

I want to change the background color of the dropdown menu to white and then have the text white. When I select white in the colors & background section it just becomes dark gray.
Is there a way to achieve this with CSS?

Just to check, you wish the dropdown background colour to be white, and also the text to be white as well?
The reason why I ask is because, with the combination the menu items might not be visible.
