How to change “comments” link text?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, I’m new at this. I’m using the Connections theme, and want to change the text of the comments link in the post header. (Right now, when there are no comments, it reads “No Comments”; I’d like it to read “Leave a Comment” or even just “Comments (0).” This seems likely to be doable. Who knows how? Thanks!! [BTW, the blog is titled Wimminwise; url = http://wimminwiselpts.wordpress.com)

    hello haqohelet!

    i’m afraid it’s not doable. wordpress.com blogs aren’t awfully cuztomizable, you know!
    if you really want to have something different, you have to change the theme – but you have to see first which theme has a desirable comment text.

    or else, having the paid css upgrade is the only solution. even then i don’t know if it’s doable in your theme!

    Indeed, my question is:
    can this be done in my theme with the custom CSS upgrade (which I have), and if so how?

    Contrary to what they say there are a lot of changes that can be made!
    In the www-folder of your website go to wp-content/themes and select the folder of the theme that is currently active.

    In the file comments.php you’ll see something like:
    <?php comments_number(‘No Responses’, ‘One Response’, ‘% Responses’ );?>
    Change it to
    <?php comments_number(‘No Comments’,’1 Comment’,’% Comments’ );?>
    or whatever you like.

    Good luck!

    Edit: Oops, I see that you have a blog at WordPress.com. I don’t know if this workaround is posible in your case…

    @karintje: No, it’s not possible. We can’t access those files or change the underlying theme on WordPress.com blog. All we have access to is the basic CSS and altering that doesn’t allow us to change the comment text.
