How to change date format in Newsworthy theme ?

    I’d like to change date format in Newsworthy theme. That is, change from “mm/dd/yy” to “dd/mm/yy”.

    How to do this?

    Hi @paulovillela!

    I’ve just double checked Newsworthy’s code to make sure, and it looks like the date format is hardcoded into the theme (meaning it can’t be changed).

    The reason for this is that because the date is displayed in a small tab, which has limited space. If the format weren’t hardcoded in a format that always fits, your site’s date setting could be changed to something (like your current setting, actually) that wouldn’t fit (your setting right now would print out the name of the month, making the date too long for the available space).

    To avoid those kinds of conflicts, the theme was designed with a specific date format built in.

    Thank you for your answer but the date format is numeric. No matter the position of mm, dd or yy the date will be the same in lenght.

    The current format is “mm.dd.yy” like “02.06.17”.

    It’s interesting for a lot of people around the world if it’s possible to change this format to “dd.mm.yy” like “06.02.17”.

    Correct – WordPress has a setting (which it looks like you may have already found) that allows a site owner to set their own format. That setting, however, is not limited to numeric formats.

    Because this particular theme needs to be numeric, it uses a hardcoded format, to prevent any conflicts. Most themes will allow you to set your own format as you’ve described, but generally not ones that place the date in a small tab or box where there is limited space :)

    The problem is that with free reign of formats, it would be extremely difficult for the theme to tell which ones are too long and which ones aren’t.
