How to change domain name ownership

Good day,
Our web site (ottawawelsh.com) was set up by another person who is no longer involved with the site or the organization. I am the only person administering the site. The domain name is up for renewal but I cannot do it because I am not the registered owner. Is there a relatively painless process to make me the owner so that I can do the renewal? It is not a panic situation right now as the expiry date is Feb 8, 2016 but it would be nice to take care of this in a timely manner.

The upgrade owner needs to transfer the upgrades to you – I think the staff need to help now with that – you can’t take away something from another owner

Thanks. I am not trying to take away the ownership. It just seems to make sense that since the registered owner has no involvement and I am the only person administering the site that I should probably get the ownership transferred to me so I can do the renewal without bothering the other person.

To WordPress.COM it looks like a take away – even though it makes sense to do what you want – but the owner of the upgrades still needs to initiate the transfer – and yes being able to renew the upgrades without bothering someone else is good
if the owner of the upgrades would not mind logging into this thread and stating in small clear words that they would like to transfer abc upgrades to account davidspeck that would help things go quicker

Auxclass has given you accurate information. We cannot take away upgrades, particularly domain registrations, from a user without that user’s permission. I have no doubt that you are absolutely on the up and up in this situation. But I’m sure you can understand that someone who was trying to steal a domain or a website would sound more or less the same as someone who had a legitimate reason to need an upgrade transferred.

The domain has been renewed, and the a transfer code should be in your mail, David. Let me know if this does not work for some reason.
