(1) Are you aware that we can all change font sizes in our browsers when viewing any webpage? http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/19/how-to-change-font-text-size-in-your-browser/
(2) We wordpress.com users can change font styles and colors on our posts and pages, a post and a page at a time. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/
(3) We cannot access the templates in our wordpress.com blogs and edit the underlying php and html. However, if we choose to pay for an annually renewable CSS upgrade and undertake CSS editing then we can change font styles and colors throughout the entire blog. However, this paid upgrade is NOT recommended to those who do not have CSS editing experience as there is no Staff support for it, and you are expected to be able to work independently. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/

It is just ridiculous that there is not an option on WordPress for something as basic as changing font size at will within a post. I think I’m going back to Blogger.
Not ranting on y’all, ladies. Just ranting. :)

Blogger software and blogs on this wordpress.com multiuser blogging software are very different. I know because I have blogs of both kinds, as well as, wordpress.org blogs and tumblr blogs too.
You can hack the crap out of a blogspot blog and enter all kinds of garbage code snipptes into theme templates that don’t validate right out of the box without affecting any other blog than your own. You can’t do that here. However, you can hire a web host and get a free software install from wordpress.org and have at it because those software installs are also free standing.
P.S. No offense taken. Bye now.

Also note that we can change the font size, provided we switch to the HTML editor and code it. I linked to that option above in (2)

I’m sorry but all this is over my head
I just want to know, is it possible change font sizes in the text I am typing into my Pages? If not, why on earth not?

If you are expecting to change fonts by clicking buttons like on Blogger (Blogspot) blogs then the answer is “no” you cannot do that on a wordpress.com blog.
-
Are you aware that you have linked your wordpress.com username to an URL that returns an error message? “The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded.”
On this forum we are required to post the URL to the blog to which we refer each and every time you post to the forum. The alternative is to link your wordpress.com username to your wordpress.com blog.

I expected to be able change font SIZE as I typed, with a button on the toolbar, as all the other buttons, for Bold, Italic, Underline, etc are there. Is it possible to change font size in my posts?
I think my URL is working now, thanks -

I’m sorry but that expectation cannot be met on a wordpress.com blog. The editor does not contain those options.
Is it possible to change font size in my posts?
Yes. There are three ways you can do that:
(1) post by post and pages by page you can code into the HTML editor note: the link I posted above;
(2) > Dashboard > Appearance > TypeKit Fonts;
(3) CSS upgrade note the link I posted above. -
P.S. The link to your username does not work. The error message is that it’s not a valid URL.

Maybe maevehalpin doesn’t know what “HTML” is. ?
Actually, I usually write under the HTML tab as it’s how I learned to post when I began blogging years ago on Blogger so I’m just used to doing it that way. I find Blogger allows one to be more creative because you can hack into the template – I like to add photos, verse, art,etc into my sidebar. In the case of font size, I like to use a smaller font when crediting someone’s photo, for instance. WP needs to lighten up on the Big Brother aspect.
Thanks for your input….I subscribed to your blog.

You can do that. In the sidebars all text widgets will produce smaller fonts than those found in the posts and pages. If you want the font size to be even smaller you can do that by creating the code and putting it in a a text widget. You can also do the same thing in a post or on a page to credit someone’s photo, for instance. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/
