How to change from Daylight Savings Time

  Currently UTC-5 is selected manually for time but it says it already the next day when it isn’t because of going back to regular time. How do I reset to regular time? I don’t remember having this problem with DST kicked in earlier this year.

  Hi Sharon,

  Timezone is always selected in your site’s General Settings page.

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/general-settings/2/

  When the time is selected by a Manual UTC offset, then nothing should change automatically with changes between Daylight Saving Time and Standard time. If you select a City from the list, WordPress attempts to adjust for DST according to that city.

  Mine has UTC-5 selected at the moment because there is not a city in the list I recognize as being in my time zone (Texas which is Central). Why isn’t a MAJOR city like Dallas or Houston listed as a choice?

  The time is an hour off and it’s messing up my posting times so I want it fixed. If there is a city in the list that is Central time please let me know which one and I’ll select that.

  Hi Sharon,

  I’ve set your blog to the timezone of Chicago, which is in Central time and will reflect Daylight Saving Time and Standard Time correctly just as Dallas and Houston would.

  USA has more standardized time zones than a lot of the world. With some exceptions like Indiana and Arizona, broad time zones of Eastern/Central/Mountain/Pacific reflect most of the country. Most people refer to New York City for Eastern time and Chicago for Central time, when cities are needed as examples.

  We try to keep that selection list as simple as possible by only adding cities and regions when they handle time zones differently. This is why lots of international cities are listed, but fewer American cities.

  While Dallas and Houston are certainly major cities, Chicago is usually just the go-to reference for Central time.
